The bright greens of creation, down to the smallest bits of life on the forest floor glow and flutter in the night. The light of creation shines from all creation and it surprises us: this brightness of color. If we look, if we see, really see, we will catch a glimpse of Divine wonder in the smallest most amazing, quotidian of places. May this Light that is in all and through all, guide your way. May the seeing enliven and your heart.
Cincindela is an evocative, unusual piece, finding life in my studio using a medium I rarely use, but love: oil and cold wax. The creative process began with a wonderful, boisterous purple art crayon, marked, without thought of form or plan, directly onto the board and gesso, embedding a royal color. Then, layers of acrylic paint were added, letting each layer dry. Days into “Cincindela” I began using a hair-dryer, which I decidedly do not need for hair, but offered me the ability to move faster to create Cincindela, which, I believe, adds to the piece’s movement.
A layer again. Four, five layers of acrylic paint. Then came the oil and cold wax-- the greens, the blues, each layer drying and hand-buffed. Again, another layer of oil and cold wax. Drying and buffing. Layers and layers—and many days—into the process, bright pinks, yellows and blues unexpectedly came to life, a great creative energy and luster comes out through it.
May Cincindela be a gift to your home. May it add brightness, joy, and the hope of creation and re-creation, the stubbornness of life bursting forth in places we were not looking for, perhaps didn’t even ask for or expect.
